Mr. Carlson has been in the energy and utilities sector for over 25 years, first as a consultant and project director with Arthur Andersen followed by a series of roles including that of Chief Information Officer with Xcel Energy and most recently leading Digital Grid businesses for both General Electric and Siemens. Mike’s background in both energy strategy and operations combined with his expertise is technology product development and delivery provide a unique perspective and understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the market and more importantly how-to best address those in order to meet the priorities and needs of the business, its shareholders and customers.
Mr. Carlson has been instrumental in directing the design and execution of business strategies to deliver on overall objectives of the organization using technology as a key enabler and differentiator to the market. The current opportunities being presented to the energy industry are demonstrated by Mike’s leadership in defining strategies and solutions for Siemens Digital Grid MicroGrid/Distributed Energy and its IoT Digitalization solutions. His knowledge of technologies available to the energy industry as well as future needs of the market have been developed by his experience in leading over 250 technology development projects for both the industry and key suppliers to it. That background coupled with his expertise in business performance has enabled him to provide organizations with capabilities to grow market share while optimizing business performance for customers and shareholders alike.
Over the past years, Mr. Carlson has directed and delivered technology strategy and services to one of the country’s top integrated utilities and led the product development and delivery groups for two of the top Energy technology companies globally. In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Mike has been active in driving the energy industry’s recognition and adoption of technology as a key transformation lever. Mr. Carlson has a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Union College and an MBA in Finance from Pepperdine University.
